Kiki the Clown-Like Elephant

Hot off the kiln, Pigtails was antsy to unwrap and show me her finished project.  The Girl Scout troop visited a build-your-own pottery shop where the girls selected and painted their own clay craft.  My kid went with an elephant piggy bank.  Her projects always end up with eyelashes and painted nails.

Is this thing cute or creepy?  Discuss.

  1. It's so cute & sweet from the front, but that side view makes it look way creepy.

  2. I think that pigtails did a stellar job painting her elephant! It is totally a girl thing to add eyelashes and nail polish. And I think it would look a little creepy without the eyelashes... :-)

    1. What you don't realize is that's a male pachyderm.

    2. Well then yellowed toenails sound about right...

  7. Cute !
My daughter made a pottery dog when she was about Pigtails' age - she's 22 now ! That sitting dog is unglazed terracotta pottery, has a drunken lean to it, and bulging eyes and oversize sticking up ears. It sits on top of my computer desk looking at me and still never fails to make me smile.

    1. Like the pottery dog you speak of, the elephant is staring me down now as I type. Make it stop.

  8. It's adorable. It's the Tammy Faye Baker of elephants. In 3rd grade we all puffy painted rock to look like members of our respective families. I am nearly 30 and my mom still has the rocks proudly displayed.

    1. Ha, now we must rename it from Kiki to Tammy.

  9. I think it's brilliant that she added the shading in the ears with pink and shows great creativity in painting the nails and adding eyelashes. Oh, who I am kidding, it's kind of creeping me out. But if I were to visit I would feed it with all my change. :)

  10. I actually don't think it crosses over the creepy line. Although, it did have potential. My vote is...drum roll please...I think it's cute. :)

I'm actually loving the eyelashes and painted toenails.... a little concerned that the elephant's hat might be made from the inside part of another elephant's ears though... :) Perhaps they could have provided a few more shades of pink? Totally adorable, and as others said, impressive!

Creepy eyelashes are accurate to the original character - well done Pigtails!

  17. I have a similar elephant, nails painted too....my son on a church activity made it for me. He was a freshman in high school, helping the younger kids. all 6 ft 4 in of my giant child proudly presented me this elephant. He's since served in Iraq and come home to settle into married life with his hs sweetie. It watches me sleep

Y'all I can't help it. This thing is creepy!!! Absolutely no disrespect to Pigtails who blessedly lacks the context of scary movies to get why it would be creepy to me, but I do salute her creativity. Beard, don't put that anywhere near your bedroom!!!

There is NOTHING even remotely creepy about that lellefont. Pigtails succeeded in giving a blah piece of pottery a personality (and a pretty adorable one at that).

I used to be a Big Sister to a 10 year old girl and I always had to bribe her to accompany me to one of those pottery places. She'd be all, "Pleeeease let's go someplace fun this time" and I'd be all, "I promise I'll take you roller skating, but only AFTER the pottery place." Ah, good times.

  23. I tend to be partial to ceramic animals. I prefer mine all white, nothing a can of spray paint couldn't fix.
