I think it just speaks to deeper OCD tendencies, or CDO [alphabetically, as it should be), LOL!
I was kind of sad to find out I was in the minority here, since that it what I always did growing up - or at least the sister that I shared a bathroom with and I always did. We still talk about how the toilet paper must roll from the bottom to this day.
We do have cats in our household - and if you leave those things turned paper feeding over the top, it's true - you may come home to find an empty roll. Our Molly Fuzz just seems less enticed by a bottom fed roll.
I also prefer that the paper towel roll also dispense via bottom feed whenever there is a hanging rack for it.
Now as for the economy of it all - I don't know about all that.
It does seem that the TP will flow more freely when grasped from the top - but to those in favor of crimping the roll in order to keep doing it the wrong way - I say embrace change and just flip the roll! :)
Top! My husband is good at putting it on right but when I still lived at home, my brother would put it on from the bottom and I'd CHANGE it!!! Drove me bonkers.
The great toilet paper debate lol. Never gets old. Personally I hang mine from the top because it is just easier to get at. But I did read somewhere that hanging it from the bottom makes people less inclined to use too much so it works out more economical.
How funny, Lynne - I just posted a reply (and Wordpress ate it) that hanging toilet paper from the top is MORE frugal, because it requires more effort to pull the toilet paper off. If it's hanging from the bottom and one pulls too hard, that roll just flies! Of course, all this could be affected by the following:
Is the toilet paper holder to the side of the throne? Is the toilet paper holder in front of the throne? Is the toilet paper holder one of those little freestanding things that can be moved around?
The location of the toilet paper holder can affect how much force is required to set the spindle spinning, and therefore affect whether over the top or under the bottom is more frugal.
Our toilet paper holder is mounted on the side of the cabinet to the left of the toilet. A right handed person has to reach ACROSS to pull paper off the roll -- over the top is easier to obtain than under the bottom, if you're right handed and the paper is on the left side. And vice versus for lefties.
I can't believe I just spent 3 minutes pondering all of this. LOL!
It's easier for me to unroll the correct amount and tear it off in one swift motion, using only one hand, from the top. My husband prefers from the bottom (though he lets me have my preference. What a guy!) because he says it's easier for him from the bottom. I suspect preference has a lot to do with what a person grew up doing?
Definitely the top. For those worried about the frugality of it, if you squish the toilet roll a little bit before putting it on, the crease in the roll makes it roll slower. :)
Top! :D did you ever see the Calvin and Hobbes cartoon where he places the end of the toilet paper in the toilet water and then flushes? ....unrolls the whole thing. ...bet that roll was loaded from the bottom! From Kelli
My dad is so crazy about it being top loaded that once when his girlfriend was mad at him, she got into his condo and flipped all the rolls so that they came from the bottom :) My dad flipped out! He's a bit anal about things like that.
Bottom...easier to control the run-away as you rip off. But I don't bother to change it when my husband or one of our seven children actually changes the empty roll on their own!
Top. Unless you want to do it the wrong way. ;)
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha, my thoughts exactly! I will change it if it is on the bottom.
DeleteI change it, too, if I find it on the bottom!
DeleteBottom - always in our house. Husband doesn't care either way, but I couldn't stand it from the top.
ReplyDeleteI laughed, tell me more about why toilet paper from the top gets panties in a bind.

definitely top. i read a study showing why top was better. i'll go see if i can find it.

Top. Unless you have a cat. It's really easy for them unravel an entire roll in the top direction.

ReplyDeleteSo simple. Genius !!
DeleteThe top. Duh. That way when you get up to pee in the night you can find the end easier.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the bottom!

ReplyDeleteT.O.P.

ReplyDeleteI'd never thought about it before, but now that I'm thinking about it, I think I mount bottom and prefer it that way!
ReplyDeleteAlso, when do we get to hear which Beard prefers and which Curls prefers?
ReplyDeleteWe're both toppers. Hotels do it that way, so there must be something to it. Grew up a bottom feeder, but switched on top in my early 20s.
DeleteFrom birth to present, top all the way!
DeleteWhat gets me is folks who have no preference - what the...? Rebels!
What I learned working in a hotel is that way allows to fold over the last sheet - which is to show that the room has been cleaned. :)
DeleteTop!
ReplyDeleteOMG BEST QUESTION EVER!!! TOP all the way. It's much more formal.
ReplyDeleteTop! Although I have heard it said that anyone with a toddler understands why it should hang from the bottom.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm in the minority (bottom for me) but I refuse to change! :)
ReplyDeletetop -- fo sho.
ReplyDeleteBottom...easier to control the run-away as you rip off. But I don't bother to change it when my husband or one of our seven children actually changes the empty roll on their own!
ReplyDeleteBottom - less easy for cats to manipulate and shred........
