Earrings - Dad Caved

At first, she fragged me for days with:  "Dad, can we, dad, dad, ears dad, when?"

I put the kabosh on that, she was a good girl and left me alone for 10 minutes.

She turns 11 this month, I'd always had age 12 on my mind as the right time to pierce them puppies.  But I eventually softened and had a change of heart.  Pigtails will be with her mom for a week of vacation during her birthday, so last night, I surprised daughter and said, "Let's go get your ears pierced!"

She didn't believe me.
Then she squealed.
Bit her nails at the thought of a needle through her lobes.
Then she hugged my neck and yelped "THANKS DADDY!"

Curls was surprised and happy too, we downed a frozen berry margarita and fajitas (order them as vagitas to the waiter and watch him try not to laugh) at El Rodeo, then to the luxury jewelry store Claire's to punch some holes in dem ears.

I liked the blue titanium studs, but told her to pick out what she wanted.  She went with the blue balls.

Curls scoped her favorite boutique at the mall, Francesca's.

I had a $50 card to Scheels from a race prize, so picked up a kayak floater and wore it around the store.  Pigtails was embarrassed and walked behind a few strides.

    2. She took two friends for moral support and chose the December birth stone. She is twisting and pushing them back and forth, and obsessively cleaning them. :)

  3. Her funniest line when trying to convince me was "Dad, it's time to let go of your little girl."

    1. Wow! She really is grown up, with that line! You've done a great job with this one. Luckily you wound up the words just in time, I had the waterworks coming on. I'm so happy for all 3 of you.

i had the opposite problem. when i was younger my mom BEGGED me to get my ears pierced 7 when that didnt worked, she tried bribing me. i was "girly" in every other way, although i didnt wear a lot of dresses (more for practical reasons since i grew up on a farm). every single other girl in my class had their ears pierced. i just had no desire. zero. im now 43 yrs old & i still have no desire. & my mom is still salty about it.

  6. Our five-year-old has been begging since she was four. Ugh. I said eight. We'll see how long we can hold out. Super cute. I like the color choice.

    1. I give you 37 days until your 5-yr-old crushes your resolve. If all else fails, show her this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pw6P02yAFlY

  8. This made me smile - thank you for sharing. I have vivid memories of getting my ears pierced. Mom made me wait until I was 16... and got her's pierced along with me!
